Brief Summary:

I have a research project in which 10-20 people will be recruited to perform a driving study. While driving, they will report on activities that they have performed. Our staff will score the activities and determine acceptability of activity how many credits they have accumulated for each acceptable activity (assume 1-5 for each activity).

I need to have a web portal created that allows:
  • access and entry of this scoring data by staff of each candidate activity
    • data will include date/time stamp, person ID, event type, acceptability, score, rationale for score
  • secure login of study participants and staff
  • review of scoring results and credits balance
  • ability to browse reward options with cost (in credits) of each
  • ability to select rewards and use credits to purchase them
  • notification of staff that rewards have been selected for manual order fulfillment
  • export of data for analysis of page use stats, redemption activities, and credits balances
  • development of the underlying database for tracking scoring and rewards redemption
  • some graphics inclusion for study branding, links to key documents for printing, comparison of individuals performance and choices of reward to those of the rest of the study participants
I intend to put this on a URL with fairly limited hosting capabilities since it requires no money to change hands or highly secure transactions of information.

I need a prototype site to be created within a couple weeks after a bid is accepted.

I would like to be able to see examples of similar developments by the developer to assess ability and scope of the development.

Requirements Interview Answers:
To help you bid more accurately, the buyer was interviewed about the requirements for this bid request. Below are their answers. Untitled Page
Bid request Type: What kind of work do you need done?
Software related (Includes desktop applications and internet websites)
Bid request Parts: What do you want the worker to do on this bid request?
Requirements: The worker will analyze the problem and propose a software-based solution to the problem.
Programming: The worker will take the requirements and translate them into the language of the computer (and test it).
User installation: The installer will move the software from the place it was created (which is called the development or QC environment) to where you will use it (which is called the production environment). The installer then tests the software to make sure that the installation was done properly and completely.
Req. Doc. Type: What kind of documentation do you want for this bid request?
Formal documentation - After talking back and forth, the worker creates a formal document and/or prototype, as follows:
  • Prototype: The analyst will create a non-working mockup of all pages/screens in the final software. Creating a prototype makes it easier for the user to visualize the final software, and reduces misunderstandings.
  • Requirements Document: The analyst will create a document describing everything the final software will do (other than what is documented in the prototype...if the buyer required one).
Program Type: What kind of software should the worker create (and/or install)?
  • An internet web-site: This software runs on a web server and users will access it using their internet browser.
Internet web-site info
Design and functionality: What does the programming of this bid request involve?
  • Design: Create the layout of the pages (or modify the layout of existing pages).
  • Program Functionality: Making the website "work".
Modeling another site: Do you wish to model another site? Yes: Not one particular web site, but sites that offer similar functionality for claiming rewards from airline miles, credit card purchases, frequent customer transactions, etc.
Size of website: How many pages need to be created/edited in this website?
I don't know.
Other info:We would expect separate pages for:
  • welcome and login (for staff or participants)
  • For Staff
    • data entry for each subject's activities and scoring
    • data review to see/adjust tabulated values of activities
    • data review to see/adjust credits and rewards
    • data entry/review of participant information
  • For Participants
    • review of individual activity submissions, judgements, & scoring
    • review of personal performance and balances (scoring history and current status)
    • browsing of redemption options
    • feedback that redemption choices have been made (shopping cart)
    • feedback that redemption will be processed
    • overview of individual versus group performance
    • links to key documents (consent form, reminder card, instructions, etc.)
    • contact information
We think that these should encompass that majority of our needs.
Programming Language: What programming language(s) do you want your website written in?
I don't know what language (and need the worker's assistance to suggest it).
Other info:I am open to suggestions from the programmer.  My programming language of choice is typically VB.  In-house proposals have suggested ASP, SQL Server, and JavaScript.  As such, solutions using these languages will be given special consideration.  However, if another language has been used to create the functionality I seek and can be more efficiently and effectively adapted to this application, I am willing to consider it.  However, I will be asking for the source code of the application at the end of the project to allow minor modifications to be performed in-house.
Database: Will this bid request include a database?
Yes, it does include a database.
Details:
  • Microsoft Access -- version(s): 2007
  • SQL Server -- version(s): ???
Misc. details: My company uses both of these applications and either may be proposed for this effort.  We can discuss pros and cons of either for this application.

Browser Type(s)/Version(s): Which browser/version combinations must this website support?
  • IE 7.0
  • IE 6.0
  • Firefox 3.0
Server Hosting Environment: What is your server hosting environment?
I don't know and need the worker to suggest a 3rd party hosting company server.
Details:We do have internal servers that may be available for production.  I would expect that the prototype and test server would be hosted by the developer or his host.  I will determine whether the in-house or a 3rd party server will work best for production.  We can discuss the pros and cons of this decision.

Server Hosting Environment: Will the worker develop "live" on your server?
No. The worker is responsible for creating their own development and/or qc environment.
Physical installation: Who will perform the physical installation?
I will perform the physical installation. The worker is only responsible for providing instructions and assistance regarding what I must do. I understand and agree that if the worker provides adequate instructions, but I am unable to follow them, then this is a valid reason for them to miss the final deadline without penalty (in arbitration).
Legal: 1) I require complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done (so that I may modify it in the future).
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
2a) Any website server-side deliverables must be provided with complete instructions and assistance so that the Buyer may install them in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
2b) All other software (including but not limited to any desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute) must include a software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request (unless specified elsewhere by the Buyer).
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
3b) No part of the deliverable may contain any copyright restricted 3rd party components (including GPL, GNU, Copyleft, etc.) unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the worker's Worker Legal Agreement.
Other Requirements:
I am open to negotiation and suggestion on design, schedule, etc. The current project is small, with 10-30 participants, but as a proof of concept it may grow so an eye toward that growth will be helpful. This product will be aimed at a teenage population so design and features that are familiar and comfortable to that population will be helpful as well. A non-disclosure agreement will be required of a person or group that might be selected to perform this work.
  • All deliverables must be uploaded to Rent A Coder before the deadline(s) for this bid request...with no exceptions. If this contract makes it impossible for a competent person to do this, then do not start this bid request...but instead alert Rent A Coder of an un-arbitratable, illegal bid request.
  • Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business bid requests <$500 (before the buyer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the software buyer and worker agreements. Rent A Coder monitors all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressors on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you notice a violation please help out the site and report it. Thanks for your help.

Expert Guarantee Required:

It is crucial to the buyer that this entire bid request be completed (100%) by the deadline of days. They only want expert workers who will commit themselves to this deadline to bid. If you are not an expert or unable to commit completely to the deadline, then DO NOT BID on this bid request.

If you are an expert and can commit, the buyer would like you to demonstrate this by making an
Expert Guarantee of at least 10% of your bid. (This would not need to be made now...but only if and when you are are selected as the winning bidder). If you complete the job (100% by the deadline), then your deposit would be refunded to you. If you do not, then you would forfeit the deposit and it would go to cover the buyer's cancellation charge and the remainder donated to a non-profit charity.

Please note that depending on how you choose to make the deposit, there may be a small, non-refundable processing fee. This fee can be reduced or eliminated by choosing a less expensive method of payment. Or, you may wish to ask the buyer to cover the cost of the fee for you. You can do this in a number of ways such as: increasing the price of your bid, asking the buyer to post a 2nd bid request to cover it (contingent on completion of the bid request), or by getting the buyer to promise to pay the fee to you as a bonus (upon completion of the bid request). If you choose the bonus route, just remember that due to credit card/PayPal rules, Rent A Coder CANNOT force a buyer to pay a bonus involuntarily...even when promised on-site. So don't choose this option, unless you trust the buyer, or are willing to take a small risk.

This is just a very brief overview of how the Expert Guarantee works and there are many more details that you need to understand fully before you bid on this bid request. DO NOT BID on this bid request until you've read and fully understand everything about the Expert Guarantee (including reading the contract and the FAQs).
