Brief Summary:

We currently own a website. This is a physician recruiting based job board, written probably 10 years ago, in .asp. I too am a coder, have written both low-level code as well as database design, including some php/mysql and RoR. As a business owner, I no longer have the time to redesign my site.

This site is a job board listing openings from my company's database. My goals are as follows:

1. Redesign the site to be an e-commerce site, where other organizations can advertise. Also, separate my company's presence, and make a more "generic" job board. A second site specifically for my company will be used, or possibly the current site will be maintained and the new board on a different domain (I own probably 50 relevant domains).

2. Needs User authentication and roles. I envision job seekers, employers (which could be organizations with multiple users, including one manager-user). For job seekers, different roles would be initial user and verified user. Different "levels" of a job description (generic or detailed) is available based upon both the seeker level, and the employer level.

3. Job Seekers should be able to apply for jobs, and view their status on the system.

4. Employers should be able to see who has applied for their job, and update the status of the candidates application.

5. The site should be designed with SEO marketing goals of being in the top 5 of Google ranking for about 10 sets of keywords we are targeting.

Requirements Interview Answers:
To help you bid more accurately, the buyer was interviewed about the requirements for this bid request. Below are their answers. Untitled Page
Bid request Type: What kind of work do you need done?
Software related (Includes desktop applications and internet websites)
Bid request Parts: What do you want the worker to do on this bid request?
Requirements: The worker will analyze the problem and propose a software-based solution to the problem.
Programming: The worker will take the requirements and translate them into the language of the computer (and test it).
User installation: The installer will move the software from the place it was created (which is called the development or QC environment) to where you will use it (which is called the production environment). The installer then tests the software to make sure that the installation was done properly and completely.
Req. Doc. Type: What kind of documentation do you want for this bid request?
Formal documentation - After talking back and forth, the worker creates a formal document and/or prototype, as follows:
  • Prototype: The analyst will create a non-working mockup of all pages/screens in the final software. Creating a prototype makes it easier for the user to visualize the final software, and reduces misunderstandings.
Program Type: What kind of software should the worker create (and/or install)?
  • An internet web-site: This software runs on a web server and users will access it using their internet browser.
Internet web-site info
Design and functionality: What does the programming of this bid request involve?
  • Program Functionality: Making the website "work".
Modeling another site: Do you wish to model another site? No
Size of website: How many pages need to be created/edited in this website?
I don't know.
Other info:Depending upon the SEO marketing scheme we choose, multiple pages may be required.  For example, there are probably 10 physician specialties we market to.  Each page might have links to multiple related pages (that are almost clones of one another) but key words may be changed to market that particular page within the site.

With the generic job board, and with tracking between candidates (job seekers) and employers (subscribers who pay to advertise), I envision many pages.  I also understand that as we progress, the scope of the project might grow considerably, as might the expense.  There may be 50+ pages in the site, tied to a back end database.  We will also need a manner to link the database to our company's database (it may in fact become the company's database), and we will also need to have an upload feature for subscribers to mass upload their jobs.  At this time, I do intend this to be limited to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.  I see no reason why its scope couldnt be extended to other medical professionals.
Programming Language: What programming language(s) do you want your website written in?
I do know the language(s).
Languages(s):
  • Cascading style sheets (CSS)
  • Javascript
  • PHP
  • Ruby
Misc. details: I have an existing microsoft access database that is internally used by my company.  I would like to model its functionality online.  The problem with this database is it has been a poorly designed, sprawling project that has been tweaked and modified since 1995.  It is written in access VBA, and integrates with Word, Access and Excel nicely.

One other feature I would like to add to the system is to be able to track emails between subscribers and job seekers.

Database: Will this bid request include a database?
Yes, it does include a database.
Details:
  • MySQL -- version(s): Current Version
Misc. details: My existing in-office, daily management database is access 2003, and is not automatically connected to our company's website.  Once a week, using ODBC, I update our website with the job changes from our company's operations database.

The operations database unfortunately does not upsize to sqlserver using their wizard.  If you advise that we could utilize sqlserver, and then link my access tables to the sqlserver back end, this might actually be a nice implementation.

I currently have a problem in my office that the access back end sometimes becomes corrupt, and we lose some data.  If sqlserver / access for my office (not website) solution will be more stable, and if the website / sqlserver is a clean approach, that might be a nice way to stage my company transitioning from an access application to a web based application, which is a secondary goal to this development.

Browser Type(s)/Version(s): Which browser/version combinations must this website support?
  • IE 7.0
  • IE 6.0
  • Firefox 3.0
  • Firefox 2.0-2.x
  • Firefox 1.5
Server Hosting Environment: What is your server hosting environment?
I have a server at a 3rd party hosting company.
The name of the hosting company is: Most of my domains are at GoDaddy. I am open to hosting suggestions
The server's shared/dedicated status is: Shared with other people.

Component Compatibility Protection:
Sometimes a worker may create features on the website that rely on componentswhich work fine on their own server, but won't work with your 3rd party hosting company's server. There are many reasons for this including version incompatibility, restricted permissions, etc... Rent A Coder normally requires that the worker verify in advance that your 3rd party hosting provider will support the components.  If they do not, then they are responsible for any incompatibilities, rather than you. Do you want this protection on your bid request?
Yes, I require the worker to query my hosting company in advance, to ensure that they support all components which the worker uses in the final solution (including supporting the anticipated version #s, allowing components to run under their potentially restricted security model, etc.)
Server Hosting Environment: Will the worker develop "live" on your server?
No. The worker is responsible for creating their own development and/or qc environment.
Physical installation: Who will perform the physical installation?
The worker will perform the physical installation, and will be given all necessary permissions to do so.
Legal: 1) I require complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done (so that I may modify it in the future).
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
2a) Any website server-side deliverables must be installed by the Worker in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
2b) All other software (including but not limited to any desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute) must include a software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request (unless specified elsewhere by the Buyer).
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
3b) No part of the deliverable may contain any copyright restricted 3rd party components (including GPL, GNU, Copyleft, etc.) unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the worker's Worker Legal Agreement.
4) A non-disclosure agreement will need to be in place when the project is started, which will allow you to log into our office to see the internally operating database.  Once again, the initial project is NOT to implement our internal database online.  But, part of the existing access database functionality will be implemented online, with hooks for future updates to the design to eliminate our office's dependence on MS Access.
Other Requirements:
My website is www.jobs4med.com

Other websites to model/ compete with would be healthEcareers.com, indeed.com, comphealth.com, topjobsusa.com, npjobs.com, gijobs.com.

This is my first use of rentacoder.com. I understand that this is not a functional specification of the website; I also realize that it may be very difficult to provide a firm fixed price quotation from this document, as I am unable to do so. Please feel free to quote a time/material quote as well, as I would certainly consider this with references to past projects completed.

Expert Guarantee Required:

It is crucial to the buyer that this entire bid request be completed (100%) by the deadline of days. They only want expert workers who will commit themselves to this deadline to bid. If you are not an expert or unable to commit completely to the deadline, then DO NOT BID on this bid request.

If you are an expert and can commit, the buyer would like you to demonstrate this by making an
Expert Guarantee of at least 5% of your bid. (This would not need to be made now...but only if and when you are are selected as the winning bidder). If you complete the job (100% by the deadline), then your deposit would be refunded to you. If you do not, then you would forfeit the deposit and it would go to cover the buyer's cancellation charge and the remainder donated to a non-profit charity.

Please note that depending on how you choose to make the deposit, there may be a small, non-refundable processing fee. This fee can be reduced or eliminated by choosing a less expensive method of payment. Or, you may wish to ask the buyer to cover the cost of the fee for you. You can do this in a number of ways such as: increasing the price of your bid, asking the buyer to post a 2nd bid request to cover it (contingent on completion of the bid request), or by getting the buyer to promise to pay the fee to you as a bonus (upon completion of the bid request). If you choose the bonus route, just remember that due to credit card/PayPal rules, Rent A Coder CANNOT force a buyer to pay a bonus involuntarily...even when promised on-site. So don't choose this option, unless you trust the buyer, or are willing to take a small risk.

This is just a very brief overview of how the Expert Guarantee works and there are many more details that you need to understand fully before you bid on this bid request. DO NOT BID on this bid request until you've read and fully understand everything about the Expert Guarantee (including reading the contract and the FAQs).
